MELEC GmbH develops and manufactures electrical pulse generators to produce pulsed plasmas
in vacuum technology for the production of functional coating systems based on materials such
as glass, steel, aluminum, plastics, semiconductor materials, etc...
In the first years after the founding of the MELEC GmbH, medium - frequency (MF) generators
have been designed and manufactured (see SPIK2000A and SPIK 1000A).
In the framework of a BMBF funded research project SENSOPLAS highly ionised pulsed plasmas could
be experimentally generated for the first time. In the SENSOPLAS project it was shown, that
coating layer structures and layer-specific properties can be systematically influenced and also
improved by means of high power pulses. With an experimental setup of our pulse generator one
megawatt (1000 V and 1000 A) peak pulse power could be achieved, which led to a multiple ionisation
of the charged particles in the plasma.
The corresponding publications have already been made by the Fraunhofer Society and also by the
academia. However, the high-pulse plasma processes in industry are still in evaluation stages.
The acceptance and attention for this new technology could be achieved by the SENSOPLAS - PROJECT.
